Sunday, October 5th, 2008: Hit Parade: After a Dominant Season, Tony Festa from Missoula Rewarded with 2008 PIO Outstanding Hitter Award
Tony Festa hit on all cylinders in 2008, making Missoula a very happy organization. Their first baseman stroked the ball at a .267 rate, picking up 60 hits as he went. He also nailed 10 home runs and tallied 28 RBI. As big a deal as these phenomenal marks were, no single number won him a Outstanding Hitter Award today. Rather, the totality of his effort vaulted him to the Pioneer League's most coveted prize.
Saturday, October 4th, 2008: Joselo Diaz of Missoula Parlays Ace Relief Work into PIO Outstanding Pitcher Award
The Pioneer League has christened its best pitcher of the year. The 2008 Outstanding Pitcher Award has been presented to Missoula Osprey's reliever Joselo Diaz. He played in 22 games, tossed 130 innings and picked up 15 wins along with 5 losses to go with his standout 2.63 earned run average. Diaz clinched 0 games in no save opportunities and only failed 0 times. This brilliant relief specialist permitted 102 hits, gunned down 116 on strikes and walked 45 batters, while holding opposing clubs to a .208 batting average.
Friday, October 3rd, 2008: SION Reporters Honor PIO Glove Wizard Award Winners
Good defense can make a difference. In the least, as the old baseball adage goes: "you have to be strong up the middle," meaning you need a good catcher, shortstop, second baseman, and center fielder to be successful. The Pioneer League announced their top defenders at each position. Trophies will be presented tonight at the annual sports banquet hosted by SION. Here are the Glove Wizard Award winners for this season:
