Aim?n Charvez, the very talented GCL (DET) first baseman, certainly made his name known among Gulf Coast League hurlers this season. He hammered them for 18 round-trippers with a .372 batting average. Charvez also collected 14 doubles while pushing across 61 runs and scoring 59 runs. For his hitting exploits, he was chosen the GCL Outstanding Hitter Award winner for 2008.

| Thursday, September 11th, 2008: GCL (DET) Tigers Fireman Diaz Finishes Outstanding Season with 0 Saves and GCL Outstanding Pitcher Award
He was the "go-to man" in the GCL (DET) bullpen and he came through in fine style with no saves in 4 save opportunities. This is why J.B. Diaz was today awarded the 2008 Outstanding Pitcher Award for the most outstanding pitcher in the GCL. Diaz worked in 25 games, logged 91.1 innings, and crafted 19 wins and no losses to go with his standout 0.49 earned run average. This bullpen ace yielded 64 hits, fanned 90 on strikes, and walked 8 batters, while allowing the opposition to hit for a .196 average against him.
