Friday, October 3rd, 2008: NWL Best Offensive Player Picked, Indians Alfonzo Wins Outstanding Hitter Award
Balloting for the NWL year-end awards is always controversial. Each player in contention has his partisans, touting his stats and making his case, but only one man can come away with hardware. Eliezer Alfonzo, Spokane's catcher, emerged atop the Outstanding Hitter Award balloting with a shiny new trophy to show for his spectacular season.

Alfonzo compiled a .300 average, drove home 39 runners, and socked 10 home runs. Buttressing his case, Alfonzo logged 24 extra-base hits and 120 total bases.
