Friday, October 3rd, 2008: Tri-City Valley Cats Hugo Piazza Captures Prestigious NYP Outstanding Hitter Award
This year the ball was really flying off the bat of Hugo Piazza. The Tri-City center fielder blistered opponents for 110 base hits in 266 at-bats and a .414 batting average. Piazza slammed 12 home runs into the stands, scored 63 times, and pushed across 45 runs. Piazza also had 49 bases on balls and a .520 on base percentage. This season-long hitting escapade netted him the coveted New York-Penn League Outstanding Hitter Award for 2008.
Thursday, October 2nd, 2008: 2008 Outstanding Pitcher Award Announced in NYP, Trophy Presented to Tri-City Star Talbot
The 2008 Outstanding Pitcher Award in the New York-Penn League went to Mitch Talbot for a superlative season on the hill. Super stats got the Tri-City ace the trophy. Here is what Talbot accomplished: 11-3 won-lost mark, 14 games started with 111.1 innings pitched and only 73 hits, 71 strikeouts, 32 bases on balls and an excellent 1.54 ERA. He limited other teams to a .187 batting average.
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008: Best Defenders Picked: NYP Announces 2008 Top Glovemen
The outstanding defensive players have been picked by a vote of their peers. The official pronouncement will be made tonight at SION headquarters at the annual sports banquet. This year's New York-Penn League Glove Wizard Award honorees are:


Pitcher: Jensen Lewis (Mahoning Valley Scrappers)
Catcher: Norb Romrero (Batavia Muckdogs)
First Baseman: Walt Banning (Oneonta Tigers)
Second Baseman: Barry Green (Oneonta Tigers)
Third Baseman: Jerónimo Padillis (State College Spikes)
Shortstop: Fresco Martinez (Lowell Spinners)
Left Fielder: Simon Williams (State College Spikes)
Center Fielder: Dong-ook Chong (Jamestown Jammers)
Right Fielder: Jimmy Strauss (Tri-City Valley Cats)
