Saturday, October 4th, 2008: Kane County Third Baseman Urbano Steel Nabs 2008 MID Outstanding Hitter Award
In the zone and in the groove. That was the MID Outstanding Hitter Award winner this year. Urbano Steel of the Kane County Cougars had his swing down pat all season long. He whacked 156 hits in 511 at-bats for a .305 batting average, brought home in 109 runs, and scored 107 runs. Steel also cracked 44 home runs among his 78 extra-base hits, had 30 doubles and 78 walks, and compiled a .401 on base percentage.
Friday, October 3rd, 2008: Clinton's Borayo Charges to Midwest League Outstanding Pitcher Award
This year's best pitcher award in the Midwest League went to JT Borayo of Clinton, the winner of the Outstanding Pitcher Award. The entire season he has stood out on the mound with a sensational 27 and 6 won-lost record. Borayo chalked up a superlative 2.33 earned run average, while hurling 308.2 innings, striking out 267 hitters, and walking just 49 batters. Other clubs managed to hit only .207 against the Lumber Kings superstar.

Some baseball teams are built on power. They cherish, revere and live and die with the longball. Other clubs stress pitching, speed and defense as the priority. The greatest teams have all of these ingredients. Tonight at the annual sports award banquet hosted by SION, defense will be in the spotlight. The best gloves in the Midwest League will be recognized. Here are the defensive stalwarts who will pick up their Glove Wizard Award trophies tonight:
