Thursday, October 2nd, 2008: CAR Best Batter Title Presented to John Fagan, Recipient of 2008 Outstanding Hitter Award
John Fagan of Salem was a smashing success this year, winning the Outstanding Hitter Award in the Carolina League. He rattled the fences and opposing pitchers at a .357 pace, blasted 19 homers, knocked in 73 runs, and crossed the plate 109 times. Fagan cracked 193 hits in 540 at-bats, logged 33 extra-base hits, walked 68 times, and compiled a .436 on base percentage.
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008: Stahl of the Salem Avalanche Heralded as CAR Premier Pitcher
Few men in baseball history have won the coveted Outstanding Pitcher Award. Richard Stahl joined this elite company today when the Carolina League bestowed the honor upon the 27-year-old Salem starter. Stahl put up a 23-2 record, an ERA of 2.10, and 225 Ks on the year. He started 28 times, 22 of which were quality starts, and he held enemy hitters to a .180 average.

Defense is a critical element in the game of baseball. Many times late in the game, a player with a "good glove," a defensive specialist, will be inserted in place of a superstar hitter. Good defenders are worth their weight in gold. Tonight is the annual SION sports awards banquet where these quiet heroes will be honored with the 2008 Carolina League Glove Wizard Award. These outstanding glovemen will be there to accept their trophies:
