Tuesday, October 7th, 2008: Leyson Septimo of Lancaster Named Premier CAL Batsman, Cops 2008 Outstanding Hitter Award
Leyson Septimo went on a year-long hitting rampage against California League pitchers and collected the Outstanding Hitter Award for 2008. The Lancaster left fielder battered the opposition for 156 hits in 504 at-bats with 73 runs batted in and 80 runs scored. This season he hit .310 and has 26 home runs and 25 doubles among his 51 extra-base hits.
Monday, October 6th, 2008: 2008 Outstanding Pitcher Award Announced in California League, Winner is Bakersfield's Johnson
George Johnson dazzled the California League in 2008. He piled up win after win, totaling 22 wins to be exact. He gassed 238 batters, walked 58 and settled the season with a 2.00 ERA. These numbers, paired with 26 quality starts and 3 shutouts made him a logical choice for Outstanding Pitcher Award honors.

Fans might not always be aware of the importance of defense in baseball. A great defensive star is not always appreciated as much as the home run slugger. But both have their place in the game. Solid defense can give a team an edge in close games or close pennant races. That's why SION will honor the top defensive players tonight at its annual sports banquet. This year's Glove Wizard Award trophies will be presented. The CAL will honor its top gloves for this past season:
