His teammates, fans, peers, and voters all agreed that Brandon Gottier was worthy of the 2008 Southern League Outstanding Hitter Award. The Iowa catcher was a bonifide batting machine. He racked up 98 hits in 318 at-bats, 49 extra-base hits with 24 round-trippers, 23 doubles, and a .308 batting average. Gottier also collected 54 bases on balls while pushing across 75 runs and scoring 64 runs and ran up a .405 on base percentage.

Carolina's Sixto Costello took home the 2008 SL Outstanding Pitcher Award statuette earlier today. Amassing a record of 18-7, Costello proved a logical choice for the honor, especially when factoring in his 26 quality starts, 191 strikeouts, and 2.88 ERA.
