Friday, October 3rd, 2008: Center Fielder Jeffrey Corsaletti of Portland EL Top Hitter, 2008 Choice for Outstanding Hitter Award
Pretty much all season long Jeffrey Corsaletti was locked in a zone. Portland Sea Dogs' center fielder clobbered enemy pitchers often enough to win the EL Outstanding Hitter Award for 2008. He lit up the scoreboard with 56 homers, 134 RBI, and 116 runs scored. For the year Corsaletti chalked up 155 base hits, including 85 extra-base hits, and posted a .306 batting average. His on base percentage was .380.
Thursday, October 2nd, 2008: Top EL Hurler Honors Go to Lee of the Portland Sea Dogs
The Portland mound ace, Doug Lee, put up some super stats for the 2008 season and has been voted the Eastern League Outstanding Pitcher Award winner. He made 30 starts, tossed 208.2 innings, allowed just 212 hits, struck out 163 and gave out only 53 free passes. In all, he compiled a marvelous 18-5 record with a fine 3.58 ERA and held the opposition to a low .258 team batting average.
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008: Getting Defensive: EL Glove Wizard Award Winners Announced
The glory usually goes to the hitters in baseball, but pitchers know that the players who are "good with the glove" are good to have around, too. The best defenders in the Eastern League have been announced, and the Glove Wizard Award trophies will be presented to these outstanding defensive players tonight at the annual awards banquet hosted by SION:
