Sunday, October 12th, 2008: Ian Bladergroen of Boston Named Premier IL Batsman, Cops 2008 Outstanding Hitter Award
Ian Bladergroen hit on all cylinders in 2008, making Boston a very happy organization. Their right fielder stroked the ball at a .304 rate, picking up 167 hits as he went. He also nailed 48 home runs and tallied 145 RBI. As big a deal as these phenomenal marks were, no single number won him a Outstanding Hitter Award today. Rather, the totality of his effort vaulted him to the International League's most coveted prize.
Saturday, October 11th, 2008: Pawtucket's Gonzalez Earns Recognition for Fine Campaign, Takes Home IL Outstanding Pitcher Award
Gio Gonzalez had a superlative season, racking up a 22-5 record with 234 strikeouts and an impressive 2.66 ERA. He threw 233.1 innings and allowed opponents a mere .199 batting average, bolstering his claim to the 2008 International League Outstanding Pitcher Award.
Friday, October 10th, 2008: IL Honors Top Glovemen, Announces 2008 Recipients of Glove Wizard Award
Defense is a critical element in the game of baseball. Many times late in the game, a player with a "good glove," a defensive specialist, will be inserted in place of a superstar hitter. Good defenders are worth their weight in gold. Tonight is the annual SION sports awards banquet where these quiet heroes will be honored with the 2008 International League Glove Wizard Award. These outstanding glovemen will be there to accept their trophies:
